WINNERS – DUBAI STEM OLYMPIAD 2021

A double win for DGPS Students!

STEM Olympiad organized by Premier Genie together with scientific communities and other technologically focused organizations across the world, was a one-day event held on 25th June 2021 where the best and brightest minds in Dubai came together to collaborate, contribute and create a unique solution to a real world challenge.

11 students from DGPS qualified for the final round. Students were challenged to solve a real world problem through the use of STEM concepts and demonstrate a working model/prototype of their idea to the judges. This year theme was to think of innovative technologies to explore the MARS better and create a tourism-friendly Martian Colony. We are proud to announce that two of our students emerged as winners.

Dhruv Mulchandani of Year 5 secured the best poster/presentation award and Areena Rab of Year 7 secured the first position in the intermediate category.

Congratulations Abigail

Abigail Mendonca – Year 7A, appeared for her Grade 5 and Inter Foundation (Vocational) RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) Ballet exams in April 2021 and secured a High Merit in both her exams.

Abigail also did a solo and group performance at the Studio Republic

INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD FOUNDATION – RESULTS OF OLYMPIAD 2021 

International Olympiad Foundation conducts Olympiads in UAE every year for a broad array of choices for subjects. The Olympiads helps to identify students’ capability and real potential which will be helpful to survive better in today’s competitive world and motivate them to endeavor for better and deeper understanding of concepts so as to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills. Students from DGPS has been participating in IOF Olympiads since the last 3 years.

IOF 2021 – Round 1 for all the subjects was conducted from 18th October till 21st November 2020. 3 students for Cyber, one student each for English, Mathematics and Science from DGPS got qualified for Round 2. Round 2 qualifier results and the UAE National rank of each of the DGPS students are given below.

It’s a proud moment for DGPS to announce that Shyam Soundararajan of Year 11B secured second rank in UAE for Mathematics and Science. Shyam has been shortlisted to represent UAE in the prestigious Hanoi Open Mathematics Competition (HOMC).

Intermediate Math Challenge (IMC 2021) – Round 1 results

 The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice competition aimed at students across the UK and overseas. It encourages mathematical reasoningprecision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The problems on the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.

The students of DGPS participated in IMC 2021 for the first time bringing laurels for the Department of Mathematics and the

school.  The IMC 2021 exams were conducted online on February 3rd 2021.

Shyam Soundararajan of Year 11B made DGPS proud again by scoring an incredible 108 points and got himself placed in the Gold category. He has been qualified for the prestigious follow on round for 100+ category, the Cayley Olympiad, a 2-hour competition consisting of six problems requiring full written solutions.

 Norah Alex (74 points) , Ishaan Mondkar (72 points), Manav Motiani (68 points), all of 10D; Zuha Khan (82 points) and Ali Karim (71 points) of 11A have been placed in the Silver category. These students made DGPS proud by getting qualified for the follow on round for 68+ category, Grey Kangaroo,  a 60 – minute multiple-choice competition consisting of 25 problems.

 Nawaal Fatima (65 points), Advik Arey (59 points) of Year 9D, Tanishq Saria (65 points) of Year 11D and Albern Agnel (57 points) of Year 11B have been placed in the Bronze category. Well done!

Congratulations to Kiera Louis Fernandes (Year 11C) on winning the second prize in the PAN UAE Impromptu Speaking Contest, organised by the University of West London-RAK Branch Campus.

Over 100 students across 54 schools participated in the competition. The CEO of the Business Development & Strategy Sector of Dubai Economy, Government of Dubai presided over the event.

Twelve eloquent speakers from various school across UAE were pitted against each other in the grand finale which was held at 7 pm on 6th February, 2021. 

It was a proud moment for DGPS when Kiera Fernandes floored the audience with her powerful speech on the topic, How failure  is great for growth. She will receive the prize along with a trophy at a special award ceremony to be hosted shortly. Kiera displayed poise and eloquence while competing with 10 other finalists who were shortlisted from over 100 participants across 54 schools in the UAE. Bravo Kiera!

WINNERS – Art Competition at DSF

It’s a double win for DGPS Art Students!

Congratulations to Lydia Girgis and Aabha Pandit of Year 10 for winning cash prizes of Dirhams 500 each at DSF Art Competition! Their artworks on the theme Mission to Mars, held in connection with Dubai Shopping Festival will be displayed at Al Seef Market art district.

Kudos to Yaniv Lakhani of Year 9 ! 

 Yaniv Lakhani has broken the record titled, ‘Fastest to identify all countries by their maps’ under the ‘India Book of Records’, an organization affiliated to Asia Book of Records and follows Asian Protocol of Records (APRs)

The record was set by Yaniv (born on September 9, 2006). He identified 195 countries of the world by seeing their maps on the screen, in just 3 minutes and 57 seconds, at the young age of 14 years, 2 months and 21 days, as confirmed on November 30, 2020.
