The first training session of the DGPS Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, was held in the school quadrangle on Saturday, 8th October 2016. 38 eager scouts and guides gathered under the supervision of Mrs. Laxmi Mohan Raj and Mr. Mohammad Hali, Scout Leader from the Dubai Scouts Mission.
After an introduction about the importance of being a scout/guide, we learned that training to be a scout/girl guide involves, developing both our physical and moral strength in order to successfully handle tough situations. Students were taught the Scout’s Law – “Be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”
Next, we were shown a video about Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouts/Guides movement, as well as an explanation of its history. Our moment of pride arrived when we were presented with our scout scarves and woggles after which we enthusiastically took the ‘Scout’s Pledge’. The training finally came to an end after a fun-filled two hour activity session.
We are glad to be part of a school which encourages and supports life-skills development through programmes such as Boy Scouts and Girl Guides.
