Primary School

The Primary School  is a thriving, happy place where children from many cultural backgrounds are encouraged to work together and “Strive for Excellence”.

For those of you considering Primary School at DGPS as a possible school for your child, please explore our to get a true flavour of all that is on offer in our department for children in Years 1 to 6 (5-11 years old).

Our aim is for each individual to attain their best by providing children with a holistic education based on the latest developments in the UK National Curriculum 2014, tailored so that our multi-national students can thrive. We recognise that children have individual learning needs and therefore ensure that each child has an appropriate level of work to challenge them to the best of their capabilities.

English, Mathematics and Science lie at the heart of our curriculum in Primary school. As we move forwards each year, we strive to incorporate the best that modern practice has to offer. The everyday use of technology in classrooms is becoming more important for our children as they prepare for today’s global connectivity.

Central to our values is our belief that all should ‘Strive for Excellence’. Children will embark on a Learning Journey which enables them to focus on their achievements – i.e. ‘I can’.  Learning opportunities are often student directed. We provide everyone with active learning that extends wider than the core textbook. Critical thinking skills are embedded across the whole curriculum.  Often, children will be encouraged to reflect on their own learning and work with peers to analyse their own work in order to make improvements.

We take every opportunity to share each student’s achievements, whether they are academic, sporting, musical or artistic. We have a positive ethos with high expectations for our students. Our behaviour policy rewards positive attitudes and promotes self discipline and respect for others. Leadership and responsibility is very much encouraged from the youngest children, who will have responsibilities within the classroom, to the oldest who may be a House Captain in Year 6.

Like our parents, we want the best for every DGPS student. We expect them to work hard, play hard and achieve to the very best of their abilities. Through their conduct and their achievements we expect them to be a credit to their parents and the school.

Together in partnership with teachers, parents and children, we will ensure that all students develop essential life-long learning skills that will enable them to take their place in society as global citizens.

We welcome you to the Primary School and hope that your children enjoy their time at DGPS.
