Every year Dubai celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness week in the month of October. This year Dubai Gem Private School celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Week from the 25th to 28th of October. The week was filled with activities and programmes to raise awareness among the students.
The first day commenced with a speech by guest speaker Mrs. Natalia Hassanie who shared her experience with the students from Year 10-13. Ms. Natalia is a breast cancer survivor and runs a group called “Positivity” to help and support other cancer patients. She shared her experiences- from detection to treatment and how it affected her as a person. She educated the students about her past condition and her journey throughout. On the same day a PINK Zone was organized by the senior most prefects for Years 7, 8 and 9. The one hour carnival had a variety of games and a photo booth. All the money collected was donated to the Al Jalila Foundation.
27th of October was celebrated as the PINK Day and all students were encouraged to wear pink and make a contribution of at least 5/- Dhs on that day. The students from Years 10-13 took part in the pink ribbon formation picture. Like every year it was a tremendous success. On the last day, Mrs. Aarti from the Al Jalila visited the school to receive the amount collected during the week. The total amount donated was Dhs 20,000/-. Dubai Gem was once again successful in carrying out activities filled with learning and fun.
